Flying Over Fremont

For years, I have watched fun seekers taking the zip line over Fremont Street! But every year when we tried to go, it was already sold out.
Finally on this trip we booked our flight well in advance.

Monday night, we arrived at “Slotzilla”. Just like with the airlines, boarding time and flight time are two different things. First you arrange your boarding time. Flight time may be up to an hour later. We booked a 7:20pm boarding time. We arrived at 7:15, got our boarding pass and made our way up the stairs to start this adventure.

First stop is the giant scale. As with any flight weight limits are strictly adhered to. As a woman, I did verify before stepping on it that information received was completely confidential. Fortunately a woman was in charge of this station and she completely understood my request.
2nd stop is information on the “GoPro” helmets. We misunderstood and did not realize we had to pick it up there, it
would have been fun to have filmed the adventure. Next time!

Next your suited up in a harness. Freddie got me into my flying suit and I was surprised at how many people did not engage with this very important person who with one wrong strapping could cause you to plunge 114 feet into a crowd of drunken partiers. I made sure I knew his name, checked that he had breakfast that morning, and that he was happy in his life. Dressed in our fly suits, we were escorted up an elevator by David (and yes I asked him all the same questions)
At what seemed was the top of the world we waited and watched as the hooked those in front of us in, opened the doors and away they flew.

Ishmael was in charge of making sure we were properly hooked into the zip line. But as a precaution the other employees would double check one another’s work with the hooks.

I felt comfortable with their work knowing they had done all they could to keep us alive. I waved goodbye to my fellow flyers, as they opened the trap door and sent us flying over Fremont.

It was an amazing experience. You could see the faces of everyone below you, I waved and screamed ( I screamed a whole lot). But it was amazing!
If you chose to go, listen to the warning of brace yourself for the stop, when I saw the end, I grabbed the straps and pulled in, the final stop is jolting.

It was a fun experience, if you love adventure and have always dreamed of flying, I would highly recommend it.

It is wise to purchase tickets in advance (up to 1 week depending on the time of year). The upper zoomline (what we did) sells out much faster. This line brings you all the way across Fremont, your 114 feet above the crowds and you travel 1750 feet facing down (superhero style). Cost for this is $47.00.

The zip line is 77 feet above Fremont and goes halfway across, you travel sitting (Tarzan style). The cost for that is $25.00.
